Mary J. Hayes became interested in photography as a child when her father, sculptor David Hayes, set up a darkroom in their home. After moving to Alaska she took pictures to document her hikes and adventures. As with her sculptor father and his work, Mary takes much of her inspiration from nature. The photographs are something she can take from this land while leaving no impact.
